Course 1: Gas Fundamentals – (1 hour) 9:30 am - 10:30am

Description: The primary focus of this module is to provide attendees with the fundamental concepts of the principles of combustion, the properties of gas, and how to work safely and effectively with the differences in the 2 primary gas types (natural gas and liquid propane) used in Hearth Products. The session will also cover how to accurately perform a Gas Hearth Pressure Test (Inlet & Outlet) via video demonstration.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Discuss the principles of combustion
  • Identify the properties of gas & recall basic safe practices when working with fuels
  • Recall how to perform a gas hearth pressure test (inlet & outlet)

Course 2: Electrical Fundamentals (1 hour) 11:00 - 12:00 pm

Description: The primary focus of this module is to provide attendees with the background and theory of basic electricity. This session will cover electrical circuits, characteristics of electrical current, and cover the practical applications of measuring and testing equipment as well as the types of tests a technician must be able to safely perform when testing a Napoleon hearth appliance.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Discuss the theory of basic electricity and characteristics of electrical current
  • Recall how to interpret a wiring diagram
  • Determine which type of test is required to get a reading and recall the process used

Course 3: Electronic Ignition Systems Training & Troubleshooting (2 hours) 12:45 - 2:45 pm

Description: The primary focus of this module is to provide attendees with an overview of the Dexen and SIT Electronic Ignition Systems currently used by many Manufactures and provide basic troubleshooting tactics for a technician to use in the field. Components used within the systems will be identified for the participants and we will cover the process flow for common test parameters a technician must perform in the field to get accurate readings that will be used by the Customer Solutions Support team.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify common tools used to test the components within an Electronic Ignition system
  • Recall the proper test process to follow to get the required readings to report
  • Utilize basic troubleshooting tactics learned while in the field
